Saqib Bhatti, MP for Meriden, has teamed up with the Colebridge Trust with an initiative to give those who are the most vulnerable in society a Christmas hamper containing items such as socks and gloves. The Colebridge Trust have found that single men and women who are aged 40 and above often do not receive Christmas presents and lack these basic items.
Saqib is calling on local residents to create a Christmas hamper which can then be passed onto a vulnerable adult.
Some suggested items for the Christmas hampers are:
- Socks
- Gloves
- Hats/Earmuffs
- Thermal underwear
- Hot Water Bottles
- Hand warmers
- Flask/Thermos Cups
- Selection boxes
The hampers can be dropped off from Monday to Friday at Saqib’s office at 631 Warwick Road, B91 1AR by appointment or directly to the Colebridge Trust at Junction, 100 Chapelhouse Road, B37 5HA between 8:30am and 4:30pm. Please drop off your hampers by 16th December.

Commenting on the partnership, Saqib said:
“I am delighted to be teaming up with the Colebridge Trust. They are a fantastic charity who do excellent work supporting the most vulnerable in society.
“Christmas is all about togetherness and thinking about others. This is an excellent project that will give people something to look forward to opening on Christmas morning. Please do get involved if you are able to!”
Gemma Ashington, Community Projects Manager, at the Colebridge Trust said:
“We started this scheme so that these people feel valued, especially when they are likely to wake up without a present on Christmas Day. Often, just knowing that their community care can be the catalyst for people reaching out for more help. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
One of the trust’s main values is collaboration and working together to enhance the lives of marginalised people. For this reason, we are grateful for the support from Saqib and look forward to working with him on future projects.”
