Saqib Bhatti, MP for Meriden, has written a letter in support of plans drawn up by Solihull Council for the redevelopment of Kingshurst Village Centre to the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
Anti-social behaviour and increasing maintenance costs due to the antiquated conditions of the buildings are just two of the reasons put forward to regenerate the centre.
The new proposals would use a grant from the Government’s Brownfield Land Release Fund to build 79 new family homes and 1,500 square metres of new commercial accommodation. The grant would also be utilised to construct 1,600 square metres of new integrated health, social care and community hub and a high-quality public realm environment.
Commenting on his support for redevelopment:
“I strongly support the regeneration of the village centre in Kingshurst. It is great to see a range of commercial and residential units, maximising this space and transforming a once rundown area into a vibrant centre with all the necessary amenities for the people in North Solihull.
“Since I was elected in 2019, I have been committed to levelling up the Meriden constituency. The new facilities in the Village Centre will ensure that everyone has access to vital services which are essential for addressing the inequality in this area.
“I will continue to fight for more funding in other parts of the borough so that no-one is left behind.”
