Saqib Bhatti, Member of Parliament for Meriden, has given his full backing to the application for the redevelopment of Kingshurst village centre, as part of the Government’s Levelling Up Fund (LUF).
In a letter to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Saqib said he was “very supportive of this project” and looked forward to “the support of the LUF in ensuring that the Kingshurst Village Centre, and its surrounding community, will be transformed”.
The project will include the implementation of a new high quality, mixed-use local centre, including 84 low / zero carbon dwellings (which will be predominantly affordable housing), new retail, healthcare, open spaces and parking.
In expressing the need for this redevelopment, Saqib said:
“There is a strong need for greater investment in communities in Kingshurst and neighbouring areas which suffer from high levels of deprivation. We know there is local support for the demolition and replacement of the centre to deliver a thriving community through a successful investment-led regeneration scheme.
“A redeveloped town centre will promote physical and mental health and provide safe attractive spaces for the community, through high quality public realm links to Kingshurst Park, Kingshurst School and St Barnabas Church
“I am absolutely committed to making sure we are regenerating in North Solihull to create the opportunities to truly ‘level up’ our communities."
