Saqib Bhatti, Member of Parliament for Meriden has saluted today’s Queen’s speech which has set out the legislative agenda for the next parliamentary session.
In the speech, Her Majesty laid out 25 bills which covered a wide range of issues, primarily regarding levelling up and building back better from the pandemic. Two pieces of legislation were concerned with national security and three bills related to post-Brexit national regimes. There was also mention of COP26, environmental commitments and constitutional reform.
Commenting on the contents of the speech, Saqib said:
“Today’s Queen’s speech ensures that the whole country builds back better and stronger from the pandemic by extending opportunities for people across Britain.
“The Health and Care Bill will put patients right at the heart of reforms to our NHS. It is for this reason I am lobbying for a new hospital at the Arden Cross site to extend healthcare provision here in Meriden.
“Many of my constituents will also benefit from The Skills Guarantee, which will upskill and retrain people regardless of age, to reflect the changing demands of the economy as we emerge from the pandemic.
“I was also very pleased that the Government enshrined in law our commitment to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 marking our COP26 Summit in Glasgow.”
