Saqib has been elected as the Member of Parliament for Meriden and Solihull East after winning almost 17,000 votes at the recent General Election. He was previously the MP for Meriden, having been elected in 2019. The Meriden constituency was renamed following boundary changes that were implemented in 2024 and became Meriden and Solihull East. Due to the boundary changes both the Silhill and Elmdon wards became part of the constituency and the Blythe, Castle Bromwich and Smith's Wood wards became part of other constituencies.
The General Election was held on 4th July 2024 and marked a change of government with the Labour Party winning 412 seats across the UK and with Keir Starmer becoming the Prime Minister. The Conservative Party have now become the official opposition with 121 seats.
Commenting on the election results, Saqib said:
"I am delighted to have been elected as the Member of Parliament for Meriden and Solihull East. I must note that this has been a bittersweet experience for me, as although I celebrated my election win I have also lost many civic-minded and hardworking colleagues, who I will miss serving alongside. In the aftermath of the election, the Conservative Party will now rebuild with honesty and integrity at our core and I look forward to playing my part in this process.
It is humbling to have received so much support from my constituents and all I can say is thank you and that I will work hard every day to repay the faith you have placed in me. As your MP I will tirelessly champion our community and make sure that the issues that matter to you are at the forefront of everything I do. I truly believe that Meriden and Solihull East is the best place to live, work and raise a family and I will continue to deliver on my priorities to better our community.
