On Friday Saqib visited Birmingham Aston University to meet with staff and to take a tour of their Semiconductor development areas.
The visited started with meeting the staff at the Centre for Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship for Growth, a research centre attached to the University designed to work with minority communities to encourage them into entrepreneurship.
Saqib commented "It was encouraging to hear about the progress the centre is making, both with students at the University and from the wider community throughout the West Midlands. Centres like this one are huge assets to the region and to the wider country in the drive towards greater economic growth.
I then met with Professor Richard Hogg at the University’s Institute for Photonic Tech. I had the opportunity to take a look around the clean rooms at the institute, which as the former Minister for Technology, I found fascinating.
The development of this form of tech allows information to be transported in the form of light, making the movement of information exceptionally quicker, with the University recently breaking the record for the fastest internet speed in the world!
It’s always a pleasure to go and witness technology advancements such as this in person, especially when it’s right on my doorstep here in the West Midlands."
