Last week Saqib was at Solihull Sixth Form College to meet with Principal Martin Sullivan and Students. Saqib was encouraged to hear about the amazing work taking place at the college on the A-Level front and with the recent addition of the T-Level programmes. It was fantastic to see how the college has made the most of these new qualifications and how students are taking to them.
He then took part in a Q&A session with some Year 12 Government and Politics students, tackling a wide range of issues, from International Affairs to becoming a Member of Parliament. It was great for him to chat with the students about the issues they have been studying over the last few weeks, since the start of term and he wishes them the best of luck as they start their journey into the political world!
Saqib then met with Denisa and Ameera, the Head Students at Solihull Sixth Form. They spoke to him about the harassment students face as they travel into college, both on public transport and walking in. This is something no student should have to put up with, and Saqib was reassured to hear that steps are being taken to reduce incidents of that nature.
The Student Council, working with the Government, has been involved in creating ‘Swift Cards’. These cards are issued to students and contain emergency contact numbers and guidance.
Saqib looks forward to watching the college grow and develop over the coming years and to his next visit.
