COMMISSIONING OF NEW HEALTH SERVICES
In September 2020, I established a petition for greater healthcare provision across Meriden constituency, along with the support of Meriden councillors Tony Dicicco, Ken Allsopp and Diane Howell, to show the strength of feeling on these issues amongst the local residents.
The people across the Solihull Borough deserved better than to see the gradual withdrawal of yet more services from their local area. I did not believe that the CCG was taking into account the geography and rural nature of the constituency in decisions being made on provision and accessibility of vital health services.
I also raised concerns with the Department for Health and Social Care about the future of integrated care and making improvements to the patient experience within the NHS.
On February 11th 2021, the government set out new plans in parliament for widescale NHS and Social Care reform following the pandemic. The reforms call for a more integrated, more innovative and responsive National Health Service with reduced bureaucracy, improved accountability and better support for social care and public health.
The launch of integrated care services along with these reforms, I believe, will result in a better deal for us locally. Patients must be at the heart of everything we do and that is what these reforms aim to achieve. They will address our local concerns as the NHS and local government will come together legally – meaning they can plan health and care services around patients’ needs, and quickly implement innovative solutions to problems which would normally take years to fix.
