Saqib Bhatti, Member of Parliament for Meriden, welcomed the opening of a new urgent treatment centre in Solihull Hospital today (28 June). The new centre was opened following campaigning by Saqib and Solihull and Meriden Conservatives, who pushed for better access to healthcare for people across the Solihull Borough.
The UTC offers a service for minor injuries and minor illnesses, 8am-8pm, 7 days a week. A range of healthcare professionals including emergency nurse practitioners and GPs will be delivering the service, and ensures an accessible service for patients who do not need to go to A&E.
Commenting on the event Saqib said:
“I am so pleased about the opening of the UTC in Solihull. Following the closing of the minor injuries unit during the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been a priority of mine to make sure that people in Solihull have proper access to urgent treatment for non-life- threatening health issues.”
“I believe that the UTC will provide vital medical services to the community, and I am thrilled to be a part of bringing this wonderful service to the local community.”
“A massive thank you to all 11,000 people that signed our petition to get access to the UTC. Your support is invaluable and without it, this would not have been possible. Providing good quality healthcare is an issue that is extremely important to me, and I will continue to work to make sure that everyone in the community has access to the medical services that they need.”
Jonathan Brotherton, Interim Chief Executive at UHB, said:
“Today marks a hugely anticipated return of an urgent care service for Solihull.”
“I’d like to thank our local MPs, Councillors, staff and Solihull residents who have encouraged and supported the development and opening of the centre.”
“It’s a fantastic new space and we hope many patients will benefit from the UTC for years to come. UHB has made a clear commitment to invest in the much-loved Solihull Hospital site, with a number of further exciting initiatives happening, including a state-of-art theatre block which is due for completion Spring 2024.”
