Saqib has spoken out against Labour's plans for farms across the UK, in an article written for The Telegraph. He stated that if these measures are left unchallenged, Labour's Agricultural Property Relief (APR) changes will undoubtedly sound the death knell for our cherished farmers. At the recent Budget, the Chancellor capped Agricultural Property Relief for estates valued at £1 million with 50% relief thereafter. The government have claimed that only 28% of farms will be affected by the amended inheritance tax rules, but the NFU have argued that medium-sized farms will be affected by these measures and that the APR changes will affect 66% of farms.
Considering the changes to APR, Saqib has argued that they amount to a family farm tax levied by the government, betraying our rural communities and damaging farmers and everyone else in the country. Saqib noted that farmers provide a public service by putting food on our tables, ensuring our food security and protecting our rural heritage and that the changes to inheritance tax will dismantle the very pillars of our rural communities. He stated that Labour has ensured that our agricultural legacy will be snuffed out under mountains of red tape and tax burdens, taking with it all of the vital benefits it has brought to the nation.
